SUMMER AND WINTER CEREMONIAL DRESSES: WHAT'S THE REAL DIFFERENCE?

SUMMER AND WINTER CEREMONIAL DRESSES: WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES?

When you receive an invitation to a ceremony, the first question is always the same: "What should I wear?" And immediately after, "Will this dress be suitable for the season?"

It's a fair question. And while many formal dresses can adapt to multiple seasons, there are still differences, often subtle but crucial, regarding fabrics, accessories, and styling. Let's explore them together.

  1. FABRICS: VERSATILE OR SEASONAL?

Many people think that each season has its own set of fabrics. In reality, there are "four-season" materials that work well in both summer and winter:

Mikado : elegant and structured, perfect for formal ceremonies at any time of the year.

Cady : fluid yet compact, it looks great in both fall and spring ceremonies. Long sage green cady dress.

Chiffon : light and flowing, often associated with summer, but also beautiful in winter with
right overlaps.

Tulle : essential for vaporous skirts or romantic details, used all year round.

❌ If we really have to rule something out in the colder months, satin may be unsuitable: it is very thin, light, and may not guarantee sufficient thermal comfort.

☀️On the contrary, there are fabrics that are not suitable for summer at all:

Velvet : rich, sumptuous, ideal from November to February, but impossible to wear under 25
degrees!

Chenille : similar to velvet in appearance and feel, it is warm and full-bodied, making it perfect for winter only.

2. UNDERWEAR: AN INVISIBLE (YET FUNDAMENTAL) ALLY

It's not talked about enough, but underwear makes a difference , especially during seasonal changes.

In winter, go for opaque or sheer tights under your dress. They protect from the cold and
They enhance the leg. And no, they're no longer a matter of etiquette, but a free choice of comfort and style.

From May to September , tights are not necessary. Many women prefer leg warmers.
nude, especially with sandals or open-toed pumps. If you need a little extra touch, there are effect sprays
silk that evens out skin tone. 💡

💡 Always choose seamless, nude-colored underwear, regardless of the season. The dress will be
perfectly enhanced and nothing will ruin its fit.

THE OUTERWEAR: THE ELEMENT THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING

This is where the season really comes into its own. The dress stays the same, but what goes with it can completely transform the look. In fall or spring, the ideal outerwear is a bolero, a georgette cape, or a lightweight stole.

They are discreet accessories that protect and at the same time do not detract from the overall grace.
In the colder months (November-February), something more structured and warm is needed.

And this is where the faux fur coat comes in: elegant, refined, chic. Whether coordinated with the dress or in a neutral tone, it's the perfect ally for winter ceremonies.

✔️ Fashion fun fact: at Canaris, we always match our winter outerwear to the dress tones to avoid excessive contrasts and maintain the elegance of the overall look.

SHOES AND ACCESSORIES: A SEASONAL TOUCH

Accessories also deserve seasonal attention: In summer, go for slingbacks, jeweled sandals, satin or satin shoes, perhaps with an ankle strap and exposed heel.

In winter, closed décolleté shoes, pointed models or with a discreet platform are preferred, even in
Materials like velvet or suede. No open toes at 5 degrees!

Accessories such as bags, earrings and headwear follow the same principle: in summer more light and
lightness, more structure and stage presence in winter.
